Caman Og official opening a resounding success.

Over 120 children from ages 5-12 graced St. Marks this weekend past for the official opening of the Caman Og, or Hurling Academy and it was a brilliant day for one and all.  With Bart Simpson in attendance the children had a fantastic occasion in which to learn the skills of Hurling and Camogie.
Special guest Paudie Butler [All-Ireland Hurling Co-Coordinator] had a wonderful time and was delighted with the enthusiasm and energy of both the children and the coaches. Down Hurling Co-Coordinator John Crossey also attended, with both men going round the groups offering their vast experience and coaching skills to all the children.
The event was overseen by a number of prestigious local and national newspapers and the coverage garnered will only help the academy in the long-term and thus help South Down Hurling/ Camogie reach a higher standard over the coming months and years.
On behalf of the Hurling Committee and Management we would like to thank Paudie and John for attending the official opening and for sharing their wealth of knowledge.  We would also like to thank the media for covering the event, and of course the coaches without whose help and assistance this complex and demanding academy could not take place.
Special mention and thanks also has to go to Francis Fegan and St. Marks School, who opened their school so that food and drink could be supplied to the children.
But off course all the thanks has to go to the children and parents themselves.  Such enthusiasm to maintain and improve the game in our area can only come from you and we’re here to cater for your enthusiasm.
