Thursday past saw Cumann Pheadair Naofa committees and members come together for the 2018 AGM. In her comprehensive secretary’s report, Anne McCormack noted that, “the dark dreary days of January were shortened by Cumann Pheadair Naofa Operation Transformation, the cold damp evenings of training at Moygannon for League / Championship games, the meticulous planning meetings for Féile 2018 all brought to fruition a summer of hopes and expectations realised in two fun filled Feile’s, underage hurling breaking new ground, an ever growing ladies football section engaging dynamically with the club and a senior football team whose onward positive, spirited journey continued to excite our supporters – to name a few of the achievements of this vibrant club now in its 130th year!”
Reading Anne’s report would have made any blue extremely proud of what was one of the most successful years in the clubs playing history. Highlighting the success of the year brought back the achievements of the pitch also and with our 5 Year Strategic Development Plan will continuing to be, “a compass, catalyst and roadmap taking us through to 2021 with its guiding theme ‘Working Together Everyone Achieves More,’ Anne reminded all that in going forward we have every reason to be optimistic about the boundless possibilities, the dreams and the hopes for Cumann Pheadair Noafa.
It was encouraging to note in all sections reports that playing participation across all codes has increased and that year on year membership continues to steadily raise with 758 registered members in 2017/18, 425 of these are youth members.
Anne thanked all those who gave of their time to the betterment of the club, town and widder GAA community, she ended in reminding all that, “the future success of this full integrated urban one club model, acknowledging that there will be challenges, depends on our ability to attract young people to our games and activities, to have them continue to play and participate as they move through adolescence and adulthood, and then later involved as volunteers.” Anne’s report was praised by newly voted in Chairman Larry Byrne who said he looked forward to the year ahead and encouraged everyone present to build upon the strong team of volunteers already established.
