St. Peter’s senior footballers secured their third successive victory in the Ulster Intermediate League with a 5-11 to 4-06 victory over Slaughtmanus (Derry) at Pairc Liam Ui Ir on Sunday afternoon in a very high scoring game.

The home side started brightly with two points from play, before they were rattled by three goals from the visitors, and were trailing by 0-4 to 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.  The ‘Point then launched a strong comeback with goals from Caolin McLaughlin and a great individual goal from Gary Morgan to give Warrenpoint a two point lead at the interval, on a scoreline of 2-7 to 3-02.

Warrenpoint were clearly the stronger team in the second half, and a great goal from John Boyle, following excellent support play, enabled Warrenpoint to end comfortable victors on a final scoreline of 5-11 to 4-06.  Good defensive play in the second half, saw the visitors score only a penaly and four converted frees.

In defence Stephen O’Hare had an excellent senior debut at right corner back, whilst Colleges All-Star, Ciaran McCartan also performed well at left half back.  Up front John Boyle, Gary Morgan and second –half substitute Gary Boyle all enjoyed good performances.

Manager Conor Tinnelly will take some positives from this display, but will want his players to display greater discipline, as the season progresses.
