U16 Footballers Have Convincing Win

On Thursday night, it was the turn of Newry Shamrocks to come and play the young ‘Point team at a very warm Milltown. For the first time this season the blues got off to a flying start ….scoring 1-2 in the first 10mins. It was after these 10mins when Shamrocks began to settle into the game and by scoring 1-1 they were right back in it. However, great goals from Luke Kelly, Niall Rice and David Breen kept the Point’s noses in front and they went in at halftime leading by 3-9 to 1-4.

This continued into the second half and the Point were unstoppable during long periods of the game, although Shamrocks battled to the end, and the blues added another 2 goals from David Ruddy and Conor Madden. But special mention must go to the performance of the fullbacks Jamie Powell and James Sweeney who broke down moves all night and built on some great attacks.
This was an outstanding performance right from the goalkeeper out …a night for the panel of players by using all 18 available. Next up, another tough travel to Saval on Thursday 25th.
