Football blitz held in Moygannon a great success

On Sunday 18th May St Peters GAC held an Under 10 Football Blitz in their footballing fortress of Moygannon. Under 10 teams from neighbouring parishes were invited for a feast of football, and that is what they got, with an extremely successful and enjoyabe day being had by all. Those who came out to watch the fine talent on show in the glorious weather were treated to some fantastic football. Clonduff and Burren brought two strong teams with them whilst the teams from Ballyholland, Rostrevor, Mayobridge and, the host, Warrenpoint all excelled.

What was perhaps the most striking aspect during the day was the dedication of all those boys and girls involved, everyone who wore their club jersey on the day did so with pride. The attitude of the players must also be praised and all involved were a credit to their clubs.

Well done young boys and girls of Down

Point overcome Ballyholland

Warrenpoint U-10s played Ballyholland on sunday 27th April, as part of a double header with the U-8s playing the same opposition next door and with the 12s playing clonduff in the league at the same venue St Marks was bursting at the seams with footballers and their families on a lovely sunday morning. The game against Ballyholland was different this time as it was played 15 a side with two periods of 20 mins. The 15 a side game must have unsettled our players and Ballyholland took control for the first 5 minutes taking a 2 point to nil lead but after this the defence started to take control and the ball began to make its way through the middle to our forwards who turned the defecit into a 5 points to 2 lead at half time. The second half then followed on in the same way mainly due to the fact that Ballyholland made changes to the whole team and the Point scored a further 6 points without reply to run out winners by 11 points to 2 .well done to all .

Dont forget training St marks thursday 6-30  till  7-30 and Sunday 11-15 till 12-15. Last word thanks to Conor Tinnelly for doing ref

Point beat the Bridge

On Sunday 13 April Warrenpoint U-10 footballers played Mayobridge in a challenge game.we expected a tough game knowing that the Bridge had reached the semi final of the Drumgath tournament losing to Shamrocks in the semi-final. As expected the game was a tough affair with some strong challenges from both sides and some excellent blocking and tackling from the Warrenpoint players. When the match was over The Point had won mainly because we had taken our chance infront of goal and finished with a score of 3-01 - 1-02 once again well done to everybody and special thanks to Ronan for refereeing.

Warrenpoint U10 Footballers do the club proud in Drumgath

On Saturday 5th April the u-10 footballers travelled to Drumgath to take part in the Pat Meade tournament . We were drawn in a group with Clonduff, Shamrocks of Newry and Saval. In the first match we were up against Clonduff and although we were lacking in height we were not lacking in spirit and after an excellent display of blocking by our backs we won the game by a solitary point, the next game was another close match against Shamrocks but once again we managed to get the result taking us into our final group match against Saval this was another close game with a strong downfield wind making things difficult for both sides but fortunately the Point got the scores that counted and progressed to a semi - final against Clonduff `B` , this was a fairly similar match to the Saval game with the result going the same way in favour of the Point. The final was a game to far with Shramrocks gaining revenge for their group defeat, the Point failed to make the most of wind advantage in the first half and unfortunately turned round 4 points down which we could not make up in an evenly matched 2nd half. The Warrenpoint mentors would like to congratulate all 15 players who took part and did so well in their first matches of the year .
