SENIOR HURLING
WARRENPOINT SENIOR HURLERS WIN
WARRENPOINT: 3.22 ARDOYNE: 0.3
The Warrenpoint Senior Hurlers sponsored by WBR Credit Union started the season with a fine win in the first round of the Ulster Hurling League.
In blustery, artic conditions St. Peter’s team made the best possible start to any league campaign. From the throw in they meant business going 3 points up just after 2 minutes. A depleted Ardoyne team had no answers for a young, skilful team now full of confidence. St. Peter’s played as a unit with some great scores coming from T Mulligan (2-3) and K Maxwell (0.6) as they combined well together.
At half-time St. Peter’s had a big lead of 1.15 to no score from Ardoyne thanks to a watertight defence led by great individual performances from L Rice (0.1), L Boyle and M Rafferty.
Second half started off as the first half finished with the ‘Point boys going for that big win and more scores coming from M Cunningham (0.4), J O’Kane (0.3), A Higgins (0.2) and Man of the Match M Murphy (1.4) who played fast and attractive hurling.
St. Peter’s ran out worthy winners, a well balanced side who can build on a great all round performance.
