Cumann Pheadair Naofa minors started their league campaign at home to Clonduff on Sunday.

The point boys started well with lots of possession and moving the ball well but failed to register on the scoreboard. The Yellows opened the scoring before the Blues opened their account when Jack Elmore pounced on a loose ball to fire into the net. The Blues continued to enjoy good levels of possession but only hit two points from vice captain Jamie Lynch and Eoghan Byrne. Clonduff got more and more into the game and made the most of their chances and scored a further 1-3 before the half with some well taken scores.

Half time score Warrenpoint 1-2 Clonduff 1-4

The second half saw the introduction of captain Ruairi McCormack after return from injury to help steady the Blues. The Blues continued to play well cutting down on errors from the first half and creating chances which Jamie and Eoghan converted again. The blues defence tightened things up better in the second half with the full back line of Ryan O’Hare, Thomas O’Hare and Matthew Maginn playing particularly well. Eoghan Byrne took a well taking goal after Clonduff had tapped on a couple of points to put the Blues in the lead. Ryan Haughey came to the rescue for Warrenpoint making two fantastic saves to keep the Point just in front. With game hanging in the balance Kohree Hourican cancelled out another Clonduff point before Aaron McBurney closed the game off when he finally hit the net after the Blues hit the post and a great save in the same attack.
