November 15th, 2007

Sad news has reached the club that lifelong club member Billy Howlett has passed away. Billy, after a long playing career, was instrumental in the resurgance of under-age football within the club throughout the 60s, especially with the formation of the Youth Club which our older members will remember fondly taking place every Thursday night. He was long a member of the Junior Committee, holding positions such as treasurer and secretary for many years. He co-managed the Senior team in 1964 with Liam 'Toots' O'Hare which won the Casey Cup, with one of "Billy's Boys"; captain Peter Rooney later going on to win the All-Ireland for Down in 1968. Many people will testify to his enormous influence he had on their own work within the club; such as Pat O'Hare, John Heatley, Emmet McGivern, Peter Rooney, Micky Carr, Seamus McGloughlin and many many more. Pat O'Hare commended his resolve, saying he was "Always there to advise and help out at any stage with underage" and that he "always encouraged everyone". Billy, of course had two sons who had successful football careers of their own, Liam and Eddie.. He is also survived by his wife Bernie and his two daughters Anne and Carol. St. Peters G.A.C. extends their deepest condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace.

November 11th, 2007

This is a first in the short history of the local primary school, in winning the Down Primary Championship but also contesting this prestigous final. The boys would appreciate anybody who has any free time on Tuesday nite to come out, put on their blue or navy colours and give the team their support.
