Friday night saw McAleenan’s men travel to Kilcoo go take on the ‘magpies’ in round 7 of the ACFL Division One Fixtures of 2019. The blues opened their scoring with a well taken McGarry free, while both sides then exchanged scores it was the open and experiences play if John Boyle who saw his brother Ryan with space, quickly passed the ball in and ‘Giggles’ found the net to put the ‘Point men 1.02 to 0.02 ahead. A warm and clamy night in Kilcoo saw the magpies not take long to claw back two points without reply to leave it 1.02 to 0.04 at half time.

Manager Niall McAleenan would have had strong words with his boys at half time, a case of some wrong choices of passes and missed scoring opportunities left it all to be played for in the second half.

The home side opened the second half scoring, and again it wasn’t long before it was point for point, little could separate the sides in the opening third of the second half until two excellently places frees from McGarry saw the blues go two up 45 minutes in. It wasn’t to stay that way for long, the magpies moved the ball well and an opening down the middle saw them find the net and soon they were three ahead and it looked like the deal was done. However, in probably their best ten minutes of the match the ‘Point men showed great character and determination and in the final kick of the game a massive McGarry free saw referee Mooney blow the whistle and both teams take a point a piece.

Best for the blues were John Boyle, Ruairi McCormack and Ciaran McCartan.
