Friday night saw some fantastic weather in Warrenpoint and we were also treated to a fantastic game of football between two of the best teams in down this year. Warrenpoint hosted Kilcoo with Kilcoo three points behind the blues in the league in second place. Kilcoo would be no easy challenge being the current county champions.

Both teams were missing a number of key players through injury but looking at the game you would not believe this as a fantastic match in sued under the Sun. Warrenpoint got off to a fantastic start with a point from play from Ross McGarry followed by a well taken goal by Ryan Mallon who linked well with Niall Trainor to finish the ball in the net.

Kilcoo came back into the game with a well taken free from play, but points from Ross McGarry, Jamie Grant, Aaron Magee  and Miceal O’Hare saw the Blues thunder into the lead. Kilcoo fought on though and managed to level the game going into the break at half time level.

The second half again saw a high intensity pace being played with Kilcoo opening the scoring from a free by Paul Devlin. Aaron Magee, Ross McGarry and Cormac McCartan all hit well taken points and on 13 mins Ross McGarry found the back of the net with a super strike from 10 yards in a build up created by the returning Ryan Boyle.
Minutes later Ross again found the net with another strike from virtually the same position to see the Blues go into a 3 point lead.

With the game virtually over and the blues 1 point up Kilcoo overturned the Warrenpoint kickout and worked one final attach in which they found the net to snatch the game away from the blues by two points. Warrenpoint will rue some shooting errors but have the magpies scent and look forward to meeting them later in the season.

Next up for the Warrenpoint men is Clonduff this coming Friday at home in pairc Liam ui ir.
