It was a very warm and wet night in Saval when the Warrenpoint U16’s took to the field to take on a very determined fully strengthened Saval side. The young blues got of to a flying start by having a few good chances, but were unable to convert these chances to scores. Saval were the first team to open the scoring  and it wasn’t long until they had opened up a five point gap with our young blues. However in the driving rain , the blues refused to go away and at the end of the second half the two teams were level with some great scores from Magee and Daly.

Straight into the second half and the rain now ceased, Saval showed they were happy to protect another lead by changing tactics. By now this had developed into a very exciting game with both teams going at it, but it was still very clear the blues weren’t playing to their full potential. But a great second half of football was played. Saval again, pulled away with some great worked points, this could have been much more if it not have been for some great saves from Carragher in goals and a dogged display from Howlett, Fairgreaves and Houlihan.

When the clock hit 63 minutes it looked like that Saval had done enough to spoil the blues league campaign by earning a two point gap. But once again this young determined warrenpoint side were not going to be done and in the 64th minute a long well earned ball was sent into young McLaughlin who in a blink of the eye spun and sunk it low into the bottom of the Saval net ! Unbelievable stuff and a lesson to all that the game is never over until the final whistle , something these lads will never forget after Thursday night.

Sunday evening brings another stubborn challenge when the young blues take on longstone at 7pm in milltown for their penultimate league game .
