The U8 team made the short trip to Rostrevor to take part in their annual U8 tournament. The poor weather didn’t damping the attitude of the players with both the Gaels and Ogs team playing extremely well throughout the tournament.

The Gaels played Mayobridge, Rostrevor and Longstone in the group stages. The young blues were narrowly defeated in their first game against Mayobridge but regrouped and had great victories against the hosts and Longstone which meant they finished 2nd in their group and qualified for the cup competition. In the semi-final against Clonduff the boys played extremely well and only for some wayward shooting, with a total of 9 wides they would have been comfortable winners, however, the Clonduff players were more clinical in front of goal and took all their chances to win by a single score.

The Ogs were in a group with Burren, Clonduff and Mayobridge. After a defeat in their first match against Mayobridge the young blues came out with renewed determination, they tackled superbly and had a fantastic performance and their first win against Clonduff Ogs. Unfortunately the young blues couldn’t repeat their performance in the next game against Burren. In the semi-final the Ogs lost to Mayobridge.

The mentors would like to think all the parents who made the effort in the rain to support the boys and girls in blue. Their ongoing support means a lot to the mentors and even more to the players.
