U8’s Have Not One But Two Matches

The U8’s had their 2nd match of the season Sunday morning with 2 highly entertaining, fun and competitive matches against Burren.
The teams took a little while to get going but both finished their games in great form showcasing both their attacking and defending with great skill and determination. Their coaches were very proud of the effort put in by everyone. A big thank you to all the parents who came out to show their support to both teams.

U10’s Travel To Neighbours

On Saturday the U10 boys made the short trip to play their neighbours Burren.
During the series of matches the young blues showed tremendous work rate, skill and effort which undoubtedly was their best performance so far. The coaches would like to thank the large number of parents who attended the game; their support means a lot to the players.

U12’s in Tough Encounter with Burren
On Sunday morning our U12 footballers entertained near neighbours Burren in Milltown in what proved to be a tough and exceptionally competitive game. The young blues started the game very well and were 2 points up after 5 minutes. Their opponents started to get a foothold in the game midway through the 1st half which enabled Burren to go into the interval in the lead thanks largely to an unfortunate goal from a Warrenpoint view point. Half time score Warrenpoint 0:04 Burren 1:04

The second half saw the Warrenpoint lads continue to play some attractive football and as the game progressed it was very evident that the confidence of the blues increased.  The difference in the end was the ability of the Burren team to score goals whereas at the other end, although with plenty of opportunities, the Warrenpoint boys just couldn’t find the net. In what was a very good, competitive game of football the young blues can take a great deal of heart from a spirited performance.

U16’s Continue Winning Ways
On Thursday night past, the U16 boys visited Saval on the back of a very impressive display against Shamrocks. With a very strong wind on their backs, the Point were dominating all over the field and were 1-2 to 0-0 up after 5 minutes! This dominance continued right the whole way through the half but Saval managed to score a goal and three points which kept them in with a shout. At half time we found ourselves 2-12 to 1-3 up; a healthy lead indeed but with a very strong wind.

The wind, the determination of a hurt Saval side, and probably an amount of complacency on everyone’s part on the Point side meant that after 20 minutes of the second half the game was all square. Saval went on the complete rampage with goals and points, managing to score 4 unanswered goals. It was only when the Point lads realised that getting beat was possible they began to play again, and set out to win the game …again! They managed to break clear and run out winners by 5-21 to 5-10. This was a warning to everyone and possibly a very poor 20mins of the game could have cost us 2 points. But on the positives, we had a great performance from Luke Kelly and more great scores from Niall Rice. Another 2 points, setting up a top of the table clash with Mayobridge in Milltown this Thursday night.

Convincing Win for Minor Footballers
Our Minor Footballers faced Tullylish, away from home, last Tuesday in the South Down League.

Played in ideal conditions, on what is soon to be Tullylish’s “old pitch”, the ‘Point boys got off to an ideal start, with a fortuitous goal coming straight from the throw in via a long pass from Ryan O’Hare which bounced straight over the keeper. The home team struggled to deal with the pace of the Warrenpoint forward line and when the opportunity arose to shoot for goal the young blues took it on, raising the green flag seven times in the first half, the majors coming from Lorcan Ruane, Ryan 0’Hare, JJ Ucar, Cain McLoughlin, Jack Elmore and two from Ronan Daly. This left the half time score at 2.01 to 7.06.

Two changes were made on the Warrenpoint side shortly after half time with Jack Daly and Odhran Jones replacing Eoin McGivern and Cain McLoughlin. The second half was a much more competitive affair, with Tullylish not allowing the scoreline to temper their efforts and playing as a much more effective unit, winning at midfield, determined in defence and with more accurate finishing from their forwards, in short they brought the game to the blues for the full thirty minutes. Tullylish racked up 2.04 in the second half and a much chastened Warrenpoint 1.07, leaving a final score of 4.05 to 8.13 in Warrenpoint’s favour.
Next up for the Minors is another away match, this time against Annaclone.
